March 07 - SPA 'retests'
Our
club now offers SPA retests for South African lifesavers
in the UK. These are official and LSA approved under
their terms and conditions.
The
following is now expected of any lifesaver doing their
SPA retest:
- Full signals as in RSA manual.
- Malibu board rescue of conscious patient (+/-100m),
remove from water to recovery position.
- One man CPR on adult and baby/infant maniken in
line with std protocol, timed at 30/2 - 5 in 2 mins,
or 15/2 - 5 in 1 min, whichever is current in UK examinations.
- Pool swim of 400m in less than 8 mins (pool of minimum
length 25m)
LSA
also require a letter from RLS, at least at branch
/provincial/ county "chief" examiner status,
and a signed, stamped report which confirms the candidate(s)
name(s), current address(es) [residential - 'in domicilium
executandi'] copies of passport/ID document(s), RSA
club to which an affiliated member, confirmation of
duty status and club of which a member in the UK (affidavit
from club / regional body) and attested results of
"retest". This will be done in collaboration
with our club, yourselves and the RLSS.
What
we are trying to avoid at all costs are the chancers
jumping on the band wagon, hence LSA needs to have
an affidavit from club/region (UK) confirming that
they are active in lifesaving.
For
any further info please contact
us. We will most likely hold exams during the summer
when sufficient numbers have experessed an interest.
